Greenough is one of the original European settlements in Western Australia and has great historical significance. It has now evolved into a popular tourist destinations, through the careful restoration of it's many old buildings, most of which have now been given heritage classification. Greenough Hamlet is literally a "village frozen in time". It consistes of a collection of 11 of Greenough's original buildings all faithfully restored including a courthouse, police station, school, church, presbytery and community hall. Conducted tours are available. You can also take a trip along Greenough's Heritage Trail - A fascinating journey of about 57km as it takes in all of Greenough's preserved history and ends up at Ellendale Pool, which is a lovely picnic spot on the Greenough River nestled under steep cliffs. Details can be obtained from the Geraldton Tourist Bureau. Whilst in the area you must also take the time to see Greenough's leaning trees. These are a phenomenon caused by strong ocean winds blowing salt laden wind across the coastal flat land.
